Driving Detroit’s Digital Equity Movement

In this CBS News interview, Christine Burkette discusses the City of Detroit’s 120-Day Digital Equity Challenge, a citywide initiative designed to connect residents to affordable internet access while expanding digital literacy training across Detroit neighborhoods. 

Serving as Director of Digital Equity for the City of Detroit, Christine helped lead a coordinated effort with community partners, service providers, and local organizations to ensure residents had the tools needed to participate in today’s digital economy. This technology strategy focused on increasing enrollment in low-cost broadband programs and connecting residents to digital literacy courses that build essential technology skills for education, employment, and everyday life, with an eye toward AI consulting and systems integration to enhance these programs. 

This effort reflects Christine’s leadership in advancing digital inclusion, technology access, and community empowerment through strategic public-sector initiatives.
